New visa regulations – medical/travel insurance needed

As a part of the harmonisation process concerning Schengen visas, it has been decided that, beginning from the 1st of June 2004, all Schengen visa applicants are requested to take out a full medical travel insurance. The insurance must be valid for travel within the Schengen zone.

The following applies:

  • the insurance should be taken out with an Indonesian insurance company / travel agent or other similar source

  • the insurance must be valid for the total stay in the Schengen zone

  • the insurance must cover a minimum of  € 30 000 for medical costs (treatment, hospitalization, etc)

  • the insurance must cover medical evacuation

  • the insurance must be available for pay-out in any of the EU-countries, as well as Switzerland and Lichtenstein

The insurance must be presented when the visa is approved, and before the visa is issued. Proof of both payment and the terms and conditions of your insurance must be presented in English.

Should you wish to obtain your insurance before your visa has been approved, you must make arrangements with the Insurance Company for a refund should your visa application be rejected.
