Dear Child comprises 38 enlarged colour photographs (70x100 cm) and 8 black and white ones (50x60 cm) showing men with children in a variety of contexts. Quotes by the men portrayed accompany the photographs. Through her warm, positively charged pictures, Ulla Lemberg is seeking both to pay tribute to 'the sons of the women's movement' and to join in the debate on gender equality. Women, she says, will never be able to achieve true equality with men in the labour market unless men are prepared to take greater responsibility for home and family. The catalogue produced by the Swedish Institute features, in addition to a selection of Ulla Lemberg's photographs, five short essays by leading Swedish experts and information about the Swedish parental insurance system.
The exhibition provides the backdrop for seminars /round-table discussions with participants from Sweden and the host country. Appropriate themes are various aspects of gender equality, men and gender equality, children's right to have both a mother and a father, etc. Target groups include key persons such as journalists, politicians and others who influence public opinion, as well as professionals working with children and young people (teachers, child and day care staff etc).
Pictures which may be used free of charge in connection with the project are available on CD and on http://imagebank.sweden.se/ (user name: dear_child; password: Sweden)
