About the Embassy

Sweden and China enjoy a wide-ranging cooperation and growing exchange covering a broad range of issues, and maintain an open and constructive political dialogue on international issues, human rights and bilateral issues. Trade promotion and development cooperation are important tasks for the Embassy, as are press- and culture issues and migration- and consular service. The Embassy's sphere of activities include Mongolia. The Ambassador is also accredited to Ulaanbaatar.

Political Section
The political section follows the political developments in China and reports to the Government Offices in Stockholm. The Chinese reform process, including the situation in the field of human rights, is followed closely. China's growing regional and international role is another important focus. The political section often acts as an intermediary between Swedish and Chinese authorities and organizations and actively contributes to deepening the political relations. Planning and handling high-level visits is an important task for this section.

Press, Culture and Information Section
Enhancing the knowledge of Sweden in China and promoting and facilitating exchanges and cooperation in the cultural field are the main tasks of the press and culture section. The development of Chinese media and culture is closely followed.

Trade and Economy Section
The trade and economics section is responsible for trade promotion, economic affairs and trade policy matters. The Trade Council handles export promotion and consultancy services directed towards individual companies.

Military Attaché
The military attaché serves as a liasion hub between the Swedish and Chinese defence forces.

Development Cooperation Section
The Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) has identified environmental issues, gender equality, human rights and democracy as prioritized areas for the development cooperation between Sweden and China. The cooperation is mostly channeled through credits and contract-based cooperation between a Swedish and a Chinese partner.

Ministry of Employment
The Counsellor of Labour Market Affairs follows the development of the Asian labour market with a special focus on China. Activities include a number of topics ranging from employment issue to labour law and work environment.

Science/Technology
The office works with issues in the science and technology fields, with a focus on innovation and economic growth policies. The office is part of the Swedish Agency for Growth Policy Analysis

Migration Section
The migration section handles visa issues and issues regarding work- and residence permits in Sweden.

Consular and Administration Section
The consular and administration section provides consular service to citizens and handles the administration of the Embassy.
