About the Embassy

Sweden and China share a long history of cooperation. Sino-Swedish exchange is growing and incorporates a broad range of issues such as an open and constructive political dialogue on international issues and human rights. Trade promotion and development cooperation are important tasks for the Embassy, as well as press- and culture issues and migration- and consular services. The Embassy's sphere of responsibility includes Mongolia. The Ambassador is also accredited to Ulaanbaatar.

Consular and Administrative Section
The section provides consular service to the public and handles the administration of the Embassy.

Defence Attaché
The Defence Attaché is responsible for bilateral military contacts between the Swedish Armed Forces and the Chinese Ministry of National Defence. The Swedish Armed Forces is the responsible authority.

Development Cooperation Section
The Development Cooperation Section supports development projects within democracy, human rights and environment in China. Cooperation focus on establishing sustainable relations between Swedish and Chinese partners (partner driven cooperation). Swedish bilateral development cooperation with China is expected to be phased out by 2013. Responsible authority is the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, Sida. 

Economic Section
The economic section is responsible for trade promotion and economic affairs, as well as reporting to the Government Offices in Stockholm on economics and trade policy matters. The section also plans and handles high-level visits within the scope of trade and economics.

Migration Section
The migration section handles visa issues and issues regarding work- and residence permits in Sweden. The Swedish Migration Board is the responsible authority.

Political Section
The political section follows the political developments in China, including the situation in the field of human rights, and reports to the Government Offices in Stockholm. The section is also responsible for planning and handling high-level visits within the political field.

Press and information
The work within press and information is focused on assisting embassy staff in external communication and in contacts with the media.

Section for Cultural Affairs
The Cultural Section works to further the relations between Sweden and China within the cultural field. The Cultural Counsellor is the head of the section, responsible authority is the Ministry of Culture.

Section for Labour Market Affairs
The Section for Labour Market Affairs follows the development of the Asian labour market with a special focus on China. The section is active on a number of topics ranging from employment issue to labour law and work environment. The responsible authority for the Counsellor of Labour Market Affairs is the Swedish Ministry of Employment.

CENTEC
The Center for Environmental Technology, CENTEC facilitates cooperation and project development in the area of energy, environmental technology and sustainable urban development, sharing Swedish and international experiences with China.

CSR Center
The Center for Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, supports the development of corporate social responsibility among businesses and Chinese officials.

The following entities are closely attached to the embassy

The Office of Science and Innovation – Growth Analysis
The office works with policies in the fields of science and technology, with a focus on innovation and economic growth. The office is part of the Swedish Agency for Growth Policy Analysis.

Swedish Trade Council
The Swedish Trade Council’s main task is export promotion. As part of this they provide services to facilitate the establishment of Swedish companies in China.
