In 2005 exports from Sweden to China reached SEK 18,8 billion. Industrial goods, primarily office and telecom equipment, mechanical equipment, transformers, iron, steel and vehicles, were the most important export products, but paper, chemical products and pharmaceuticals were also large product groups (2005). In 2005 imports from China to Sweden reached SEK 29,7 billion. Light machinery and consumer goods, such as textiles, clothes, shoes and sporting equipment, dominate imports (2005). The Swedish Trade Council supports Swedish companies to export to and invest in China.Most large Swedish companies have established themselves in China, but also smaller companies are finding their way here. In total approx. 220 companies have manufacturing facilities or offices on the ground, primarily in or around Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing. The Swedish Chamber of Commerce in China has more than 100 members and chapters in both Beijing and Shanghai. There is also a Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong.Chinese companies are also finding their way to Sweden. The Invest in Sweden Agency (ISA) supports Chinese companies to invest in Sweden. The Scientific Counsellor also contributes to strengthening contacts.To strengthen the economic relations between Sweden and China is an important issue for the Swedish government. Bilateral trade and investment issues are discussed every second year at so-called Joint Commission meetings. The next Joint Commission meeting will take place in Beijing on 25 May. A bilateral investment group with representatives from the Chinese Ministry for Commerce, the Embassy and ISA convenes annually. On-going trade and investment issues are treated in daily contacts with the relevant authorities in China.The Economic section of the Embassy promotes trade and investment between Sweden and China together with the Consulates General in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong.
