About the Embassy

Welcome to the Embassy of Sweden in London

Our task is to represent Sweden and the Swedish Government in the UK and to promote Swedish interests. We do this by having a continuous dialogue with British representatives regarding for example cooperation within the EU and through information and collaboration with the cultural and defence sectors as well as with industry, public authorities and other organisations.

The Embassy also handles a large number of applications for Swedish passports, registrations of  newborns, visas to Sweden and other consular and official matters.

Some twenty five persons work at the Embassy. Ambassador Nicola Clase is Head of Mission and we have a Cultural Counsellor, a Defence Attaché, ten diplomatic and twelwe locally employed staff. Three posts are funded by other Swedish Ministries or Public Authorities. There are also seventeen Swedish Consulates acting on behalf of the Embassy throughout the UK.

The Embassy has close contact with other Swedish organisations in the UK such as the Swedish Trade Council, VisitSweden, two Swedish churches and the Swedish Chamber of Commerce. We also collaborate with many Swedish cultural practitioners and journalists living in Britain.

For information on Swedish culture in the UK as well as Swedish news, events and projects please see

The Defence Department at the Embassy of Sweden in London is a part of the Swedish Armed Forces. Read more about the role of the Department on

There are seventeen Swedish consulates in the United Kingdom. Most of the honorary consuls are Britons with a connection to Sweden. Together with the Embassy they represent Sweden in their local community. The consuls can provide information about Sweden and help Swedes in certain matters. See the
