Business visa

A visa issued by a Schengen country permits free travel within the Schengen area, if not stated otherwise on the visa. The Schengen countries include: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. The maximum duration of stay is 90 days.

Competent Embassy or Consulate General

The Embassy or Consulate General of the country of your main destination is the competent authority to deal with the application. If the main destination cannot be determined, the application should be made to the embassy or consulate general of the country in which the longest visit shall be. If the visits in different Schengen countries are of equal length, the first destination shall be the determining factor.

Visa application

Applicants with official passports (diplomatic passports, service passports, passports "for public affairs") apply for their visas via the competent Chinese Ministry or Commission. Holders of ordinary passports are in principle required to apply in person.

You need the following for the application (all information must be in English or Swedish):

  • A passport or other travel document, including two copies, valid for at least 90 days after expiration of visa. We only accept passports which have been signed by the holders of the passports. Photocopy of the identity page of the applicant's passport.

  • Two completed application forms, in Swedish or English (including Appendix A). Application forms for a Schengen visa and form for Appendix A may be downloaded to the right. They are also available at the Consulate.

  • Two passport size photos. The photos must be: full face (facing the camera directly with your eyes looking straight at the camera); in colour with a light background; no more than six months old and resemble you; you must be bareheaded, unless you have special religious reasons. Photos that do not conform to these standards will be rejected and may cause delay in processing the application.

  • Invitation letter from your Swedish business partner which must include the intended duration of stay and the reason for the visit including a time schedule and itinerary. This letter should include a signature, telephone and fax numbers as well as the address of the Swedish company and must always be submitted in original.

  • Dispatch letter from employer stating your employment position, purpose of journey and guarantee of return. The letter should be with company letter head, signed and stamped and the address, tel no, and fax no to your employer should be clear. This document must always be submitted in original and cannot be signed by the applicant.

  • Copy of business license (both Chinese and Swedish side), not older than one year.

  • Proof of your financial means, who will support you during your stay in Sweden (in invitation, or in dispatch letter etc). The required amount in Sweden is 40 Euro/day.

  • Medical insurance covering at least 30.000 Euro valid during the entire duration of stay in the Schengen area (until 24:00 local European time on departure date), both original document and a copy of the insurance certificate (only printed insurance certificates will be accepted, not hand-written). Please note! The original Insurance Certificate must be shown to passport control when entering Schengen! You can otherwise risk being denied entrance.

  • If you are not a Chinese citizen, you also have to provide a copy of your Chinese residence permit.

  • If the Consulate General finds it necessary, you may be asked to provide additional documents, information, or to have an interview.

Note!:

You have to appear in person at the Consulate General when applying.

Presentation of the above-mentioned documents doesn't automatically mean that a visa will be granted.
