Numerous studies in recent years have shown Sweden to be the world's most advanced country in the fields of both telecommunications and information technology. Already four years ago, Newsweek dubbed Stockholm "Europe's Internet Capital." A new report from the Centre for European Reform proclaims Sweden to be a model country in the fields of IT, innovation, and research and development. Sweden has unique access to broadband internet, thanks to a combination of public and private ventures. The extensive deregulation of the telecom sector has led to cheaper prices and new solutions. On average and in relation to its GNP, Sweden invests more money on information technology than any other country. A large majority of private individuals as well as businesses and public authorities routinely use the internet for daily tasks and transactions. We would be representing Sweden in poor fashion if we didn't use all the technology at our disposal to the spread word about Swedish events in the U.S.We hope you enjoy the new format!Olle WästbergConsul General of Sweden in New York
