Work in Sweden

Since 1 May 2004 the Czech citizens, just like any other citizens from all EU countries, do not need a work permit in order to work in Sweden. That means that any Czech citizen can start working in Sweden without having a Residence permit before going to Sweden.

After starting working in Sweden you have to register your stay in the country at the nearest Migration Board office (Migrationsverket).

If you are a citizen of a country which is not a member of the European Union, you must have a work permit in order to work in Sweden. This applies even for those who have permanent residence permit the Czech Republic

Requirements for a work permit for citizens of non EU countries:

  • Application for a work and residence permit.

  • You must have a written offer of work in Sweden, made out on a special form (AMS PF 101704) which your employer can obtain from the employment office, it is also available here to the right.

Your employer must complete it and send it to you so that you can enclose it with your application.

  • Your employer must guarantee that you will be paid a minimum of SEK 13,000 per month before tax.

  • Accommodation must have been arranged for you in Sweden.

  • You must be fully prepared to leave Sweden when your term of employment is over.

If you will be in Sweden for less than three months, you will not require a residence permit. You may, however, require an entry visa. Information about which citizens are required to have entry visas and more information on visas is found on the page 'Visa for visiting Sweden'.

Where do I apply?

The first time you apply for a work permit, you do so at the Swedish Embassy or Consulate in your country of origin or in your country of domicile.
