Swedish Film

To many, Swedish film is synonomus with director Ingmar Bergman, as well as legendary actresses Greta Garbo and Ingrid Bergman. But in recent years, a new and exciting generation of Swedish filmmakers has emerged.

Today's multi-cultural Sweden has provided a fertile ground where exciting new film talent can flourish.  This new wave of talent has an impressive range.

As It Is in Heaven, directed by Kay Pollak, was nominated for an Academy Award in the category Best Foreign Language Film in 2005.  Mikael Håfström's boarding school drama Evil was nominated for a 2004 Academy Award in the category Best Foreign Language Film.

Iranian-born Swedish director Susan Taslimi won the 2003 Brooklyn International Film Festival with her feature film All Hell Let Loose.  Director Lukas Moodysson has received international acclaim for the sharp social insight of films like Show Me Love, Together, Lilya 4-Ever, and A Hole in My Heart.  His films were featured at Lincoln Center in New York in April 2005.
