The Section for Turkish-Swedish Cooperation

The Section for Turkish-Swedish Cooperation at the Consulate General of Sweden in Istanbul was established by the Swedish Government in 2001. Its purpose is to support Turkey’s reform process towards membership in the European Union.

In January 2010 the Swedish Government introduced a new strategy for development cooperation with Turkey for the period January 2010 – December 2013. The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and the Section for Turkish- Swedish Cooperation at the Consulate General of Sweden in Istanbul are primarily responsible for implementing the strategy. While Sida manages the major part of the cooperation, the Section for Turkish-Swedish cooperation assigned to primarily contribute to the public debate in Turkey on topics such  as democracy, human rights, and gender equality. In this context, the Section for Turkish-Swedish cooperation offers financial support to a number of projects each year.
