Facts

The Swedish Migration Board determines the guidelines that the Embassy use for granting or rejecting visa applications (visa practice).

The Visa Practice is based on the knowledge which the Board has of the conditions in different parts of the world. Experiences from individual cases also affect the practice.

Inviting relatives or friends to visit Sweden

If you wish to invite a Vietnamese citizen to travel to Sweden for a short term visit you have to provide the Embassy with the following documentation:

The documents should be handed in by the applicant together with the application form when they apply at the Embassy and should not be older than 3 months.

  • Invitation. The form has to be in original form, fully completed and duly signed. Please make sure that you provide the Embassy with as much information as possible on the invitation.

  • Copy of your civic registration - "personbevis". You can order this from the Tax Authority at Skatteverket

  • If you will be responsible for the costs during the stay in Sweden, proof of sufficient means needs to be shown in form of bank statementsfor the last three (3) months.

The Migration Board has set a sum of SEK 370 per day/person for visits. If room and board is arranged by the referent the amount will be reduced accordingly.

The Embassy reserves the right to ask for further documentation if needed.

The person related to the invited family member should always be stated as the referent. In case the spouse/co-habitant of the family member will be responsible for the costs, this should be noted on the invitation and backed up with proof of sufficient means (see above).

If you are not related to the person you are inviting they should either apply for a tourist visa or a visa for visiting friends living in Sweden. The application form is the same but we require different documents depending on the purpose of the trip.

Decisions will always be given to the applicant and never to the referent. The decisions can not be appealed and in case the applicant wish to have their case reviewed, they themselves need to notify the Embassy in written form within 2 weeks of the decision.
