The Application Procedure
The procedure normally takes about 15 minutes.

Applicants must bring the following documents:

1) The old passport, valid or expired. If expired, a "personbevis" from the Swedish tax agency (Skatteverket) must also be presented. Please note that this document is only valid for one month from the issuance date.

2) Original documentation proving U.S. resident status (valid visa or green card) or U.S. citizenship (U.S. passport and, if applicable, naturalization certificate in original, or notarized copy of same). If the applicant became a U.S. citizen before July 1, 2001, documentation from the Swedish Migration Board must be provided to certify that he/she has regained Swedish citizenship.

3) Application fee of $210. Accepted payment methods are credit/debit card and cash, as well as money order or certified bank check, payable to Consulate General of Sweden. Personal checks are not accepted.

4) For minor applicants (under 18) the consent of both legal guardians is required. For more information, see: Renewal of Passport for Children Under 18.

Please note that it is not possible to apply for a passport unless the child has already acquired a personal number or coordination number

5) If you have changed your name since your last passport was issued, your name change must already be registered with the Swedish Tax Agency for you to be able to apply for a new passport. For more information, see Change of Name.

Applicants do not need to bring passport photos, since they will be digitally photographed on site at the time of the application.
