The Honorary Consulate in Erbil

The Swedish Honorary Consulate in Erbil was opened on 1 December 2009. The Consulate is responsible for the Iraqi Kurdistan Region (including the governorates of Dohuk, Erbil and Suleimaniye). The Honorary Consul is Mr. Carl Henrik Assargård.

The Honorary Consulate, which is under the authority of the Embassy of Sweden in Baghdad, is an honorary consulate, which means that its main purpose is to function as a link between the local authorities, the citizens of the Kurdistan region and the Embassy of Sweden in Baghdad. The Consulate will also serve as a support office for Swedes and Swedish companies and organisations with projects or activities in the Kurdistan Region. The Honorary Consulate does not have the authority to issue visas, residence permits or passports.
