The Second Global Review (6-7 July) provided an opportunity to give added impetus to the ambitious mandate on Aid for Trade, which aims to help developing countries, and the least developed in particular, to build the supply-side capacity and infrastructure they need to take advantage of trade opening and to connect with the global economy.
In his statement, Swedish State Secretary to the Minister for Trade Mr. Gunnar Wieslander, stressed that “the challenge is to provide Aid for Trade in a manner that generates pro-poor growth.” He also outlined the priority areas for Sweden’s Trade Related Assistance: standards (SPS/TBT), support related to the Economic Partnership Agreements with the ACP countries, trade and climate change, and trade procedures.
Among the many prominent participants were also Mia Horn af Rantzien, Deputy Director-General, SIDA.
