Vietnamese students bring to Stockholm “Beauty on Water” their brilliant public relations campaign

Tran Thi Tra Giang, Dang Thi Hoang Ha and Bui Kim Ngan will represent Vietnam at the prestigious International Stockholm Junior Water Prize competition in August. In all, national winners from 30 countries will compete for the honour, which includes USD 5,000 and a blue crystal sculpture in the shape of a water droplet.

The international Stockholm Junior Water Prize finale will be held during the 2009 World Water Week in Stockholm, August 16-22, the leading annual meeting place for the planet’s most urgent water-related issues. The Week also aims at capacity building, partnership-building and follow-up on the implementation of international processes and programmes in water and development.

This is the sixth year the Embassy of Sweden in Hanoi supports the Vietnamese delegation to participate in the International Stockholm Junior Water Prize during the World Water Week in Stockholm, known as “Beauty on Water”.  The international Stockholm Junior Water Prize competition, open to young people ages 15-20 brings together bright young scientists around the world to encourage their continued interest in water and the environment.  This year, the Vietnamese students from the special high school of the northern province of Thai Nguyen, with their brilliant public relations campaign, represents Vietnam in the 13th International Stockholm Junior Water Prize.

The Cau River in northern part of Vietnam has been described as the “Dreaming River” in many well-known poems, stories and novels in Vietnam. Unfortunately, its beauty is gradually being lost to pollution. Therefore, the Vietnamese students decided to develop a campaign with the aim to “Helping other young people understand and take action to protect water sources”. They worked extensively to advocate water conservation, wise water use and management through 18 video clips, 16 out-door activities and a website www.moitruong.good.to  containing 14 topics, 40 items, 112 articles. To date, the website has had over 3000 visits.
