Sweden top of the class
The volume of Swedish development assistance is the highest in the world, according to the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC), which published its peer review of Swedish development assistance on July 10, 2009.

Foreign Minister Carl Bildt visits Kabul
The Foreign Minister arrives in the wake of the adoption of the EC action plan on Afghanistan and Pakistan. Apart from meeting with H.E. Hamid Karzai he has also scheduled a large number of other meetings including with the two former presidential candidates Dr Abdullah and Dr Ghani, as well as the Speaker of the National Assembly H.E Yunus Qanooni. This is the Minister's third visit to Afghanistan this year.

Sweden takes on the challenge - Fredrik Reinfeldt on Sweden's priorities for the EU Presidency
“Managing the financial crisis and unemployment and addressing climate change – these will be the two main priorities of the Swedish Presidency.” So said Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt today at a seminar at CEPS, the Centre for European Policy Studies, in Brussels, where he spoke about the Swedish Presidency.

Swedish development assistance - highest in the world
The OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) today published preliminary statistics for development assistance from all member countries. Sweden's aid volume as a proportion of gross national income (GNI) preliminarily amounted to 0.98 per cent in 2008, which is the highest in the world.

Sweden increases support to Afghanistan
The Government made three important decisions on Thursday, 13 November which in various ways will strengthen and improve Sweden's support to Afghanistan. The decisions concern both our military contribution to the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and the design of a new strategy for our development assistance to Afghanistan.

Sweden strengthens its presence in Afghanistan
The Government wants to strengthen Swedish military presence through transport aircraft, ambulance helicopters and more training and coordination groups known as OMLT teams. The Swedish armed force in ISAF is expected to number about 500 people in 2009, compared with the current maximum of 390.

Carl Bildt visits Afghanistan on 29-31 October, 2008
Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt is making his first visit to Afghanistan on 29-31 October to meet President Karzai and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Spanta, and to inaugurate the new Swedish Embassy in Kabul. A trip is also planned to Mazar-e-Sharif, with a focus on the Swedish troops in the area. Mr Bildt's agenda also includes meetings with MPs and representatives of the international community.
