The Embassy of Sweden to Iraq is now permanently re-established in Baghdad!

The Embassy was evacuated on the brink of the first Gulf War in 1991 and has now,18 years later, returned to its right place in Baghdad. The return occurred in the midst of a whirling sandstorm that covered boxes and furniture in a thick layer of sand. Being back in Iraq, Sweden was able to take on the responsibility of leading the European Union in Iraq for the coming six months. The ability of the Embassy to offer services will increase gradually, though it will remain a construction site for some time to come.

The security situation reduces the possibilities to offer full consular services. Therefore, no visa or residence permit applications will be handled by the Embassy in Baghdad for the time being. As for these applications, please refer to the Embassies of Sweden in the neighbouring countries.
