Presidential and parliamentary elections in the Iraqi Kurdistan region
The Embassy was present in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region monitoring the presidential and parliamentary elections on July 25. The monitoring mission was carried out in coordination with around 40 other poll watchers from the other EU countries.

Three diplomats from the Embassy of Sweden to Iraq observed the provincial elections in Irak that took place 31 January 2009. The observers visited five polling stations in various parts of Baghdad.

Scania planning vehicle production in Iraq
Scania has signed an agreement in principle with the government of Iraq on assembly of trucks and buses in that country. The contract includes an initial delivery of 500 vehicles, with production starting during the third quarter of 2009. Operations will take place under the aegis of Iraq’s State Company for Automotive Industry.

The Swedish country strategy for Iraq was adopted in 2004, supplemented in December 2006, and is currently extended to 31 December 2009. A new country strategy for Iraq, valid from 2010, is currently being elaborated. The Iraq Conference in retrospect - An interview with Ambassador Niclas Trouvé
For a couple of days Sweden was in world focus as host of the international ICI Conference on Iraq on 29 May 2008. More than 100 delegations came to Stockholm - 600 people and more than 360 accredited journalists. A large number of people from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and other parts of the Government Offices were involved in preparations for the conference as well as in the conference itself and the subsequent bilateral Iraqi visit.
