The External Service - Radio Sweden broadcasts are in Swedish, English, German, Russian and Belarusian. The traditional means of reaching audiences abroad has been through shortwave and mediumwave. Since the beginning of the 1990’s we have also used satellites, both to bring our programs directly to listeners with satellite receivers, and to reach local radio stations for rebroadcast. We also relay a number of Swedish Radio’s domestic programs in Swedish, as well as programs from our Immigrant Languages Service in Assyrian/Aramaic, Kurdish, and Romani. Internet webcasting has also provided us with a new way to reach listeners, who can access our programs on demand, rather than at the mercy of schedules and the ionosphere.
