    For the first time in 20 years, a Swedish trade delegation has visited Iraq's capital, Baghdad. The visit was led by Minister for Trade Ewa Björling, who was invited to Iraq in connection with the major conference on the country's reconstruction that was held in Stockholm in May. "For a small country like Sweden that depends on exports, it is very important to try to enter new, emerging markets as early as possible. I therefore felt it was important to travel to Baghdad now", says Dr Björling.

    Sweden will host an International Conference on Systematic Work for Human Rights in Stockholm on 6-7 November. Some 200 people from around 70 countries will attend the conference.

    Five Arab journalists on a visit to Stockholm experience the diversity of the Swedish capital. They come from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq/UK, Morocco and Algeria and are in Stockholm to take part in a programme for international journalists organised by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs Press Centre. As part of a special initiative by the MFA Press Centre this autumn and next spring, journalists from the Middle East and North Africa will receive an introduction to Sweden. "We have experienced an open, informal and transparent country," says Mina Al-Oraibi, from Iraq/UK.

    The Government decided today to allocate SEK 6.1 billion to the International Development Association (IDA) over the period 2008-2017. IDA is the part of the World Bank that focuses on the poorest countries. Sweden-s increase is now around 33 per cent.
