The fourth session of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) in Strasbourg

The fourth session of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) will take place in Strasbourg from 28 September to 2 October.

Several speakers will attend the session, notably the President of Slovenia Danilo Türk and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel Zbogar. Slovenia has the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers from May to November 2009 and Zbogar will report on the actions of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers since the last PACE session in June. A key issue during the session is the election of a new Secretary General. The two candidates are Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz from Poland and Torbjorn Jagland from Norway. The conflict between the Russian Federation and Georgia is another important issue on the agenda with a monitoring report on measures taken by the two countries to implement relevant resolutions adopted by the Assembly.

The PACE agenda is available on the web site of the Council of Europe.
