Council of Europe Ministerial meeting in New York

A meeting with thirty-two Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the Council of Europe member states took place in New York on 24 September 2008, to discuss the conflict between Georgia and the Russian Federation and its consequences for the Council of Europe.

The Swedish EU minister Cecilia Malmström on October 27 chaired a high level meeting in Luxemburg between the EU and the Council of Europe. The Council of Europe delegation was co-chaired by the newly elected Secretary General, Thorbjörn Jagland and Samuel Zbogar, Foreign Minister of Slovenia and Chairman of the Committee of Ministers. Among future important issues which he mentioned was the Lisbon Treaty and the accession of the EU to the European Convention on Human Rights.
