Collaboration between Chiba University and Mid Sweden University

The idea of the collaboration between Mid Sweden University and Chiba University began when participants from a research team from Mid Sweden University visited teachers of the research group at Chiba University during a trip to Japan in November 2007.

The meeting revealed that Mid Sweden University and Chiba University have similar educational focus within graphic design, industrial design and packaging design.
This mutual understanding gave birth to the idea to create an international collaboration project between the two Universities.

Outline Design Assignment
The aim of this year’s assignment is to create a new design concept for a national dish of Japan and a national dish of Sweden. The Swedish students will design a new take-out package and a new graphic design for the Japanese dish “sushi”. The Japanese students will design a new take-out package and a new graphic design for the Swedish dish “meatballs, boiled potatoes and lingonberry jam”.

The final presentation was held at the Embassy of Sweden in Tokyo on Nov.14, in which 2 students and 3 teachers from Sweden exchanged packaging design ideas with students from Chiba University.
