From October 6th to October 9th a large Swedish delegation will come to Japan for a conference and study visits concerning the challenges and opportunities of an ageing society, and how collaborations between Sweden and Japan could help to address this challenging issue. On October 7th, the University of Tokyo will hold a public symposium supported by several Swedish funding agencies and the Embassy of Sweden. The symposiums will be opened by Junichi Hamada, President of the University of Tokyo, Anders Hallberg, Vice-Chancellor (President) of Uppsala University and Stefan Noreén, Sweden’s ambassador to Japan. Key-note speeches will be held by Hiroshi Komiyama, Chairman of Mitsubishi Research Institute and former President of the University of Tokyo, and Per Magnus (Peje) Emilsson, CEO of the large Swedish PR-Agency KREAB. The opening and key-note speeches will be followed by a panel debate moderated by Tetsuya Itagaki (Editorial Writor,The Asahi Shimbun). The conference will then take place over two days with a program spanning from a broader social perspective to a more scientific medical perspective. The Swedish delegation will consist of some 30 participants with representatives from Uppsala University, Lund University, Chalmers University of Technology, Karolinska Instiutet, Luleå Technical l University, Örebro University, The Vårdal Foundation, VINNOVA (the Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems), FAS (Swedish Council for Working Life and Social Research), and the Swedish Ministry for Health Social Affairs. In connection with the conference study visits to Toyota, Panasonic R&D centers, and an elderly care home will also be arranged.
