The 21st Biennial of Industrial Design (BIO) started at the Ljubljana Architecture Museum in Slovenia on October 2. The 21st Biennial was officially opened by Dr Danilo Türk, the President of the Republic of Slovenia. The main exhibition, which will run until 2 November, will feature 126 works of designers coming from 18 countries and will be accompanied by a number of workshops and other events. At the event’s opening ceremony on 2 October 2008, an international jury selected the award-winners from among the exhibited works. The BIO Honourable Mentions went, among others, to Swedish Ergonomidesign for Care electronic devices which Ergonomidesign has developed for Doro, a leading Swedish consumer electronics company and were designed specifically for seniors with impaired hearing, vision, mobility, dexterity or cognition. The BIO Gold Medals went to Ljubljana castle cable railway and Croatian brochure "40ish sheets of paper".
