Swedish poetry festival in Damascus

Twelve Swedish poets and musicians visit Damascus this week to take part in the Swedish poetry festival “Baghdad Café”. During the week they will hold public readings of poetry and meet with Syrian artists and writers.

At first glance, Swedish-language poetry in Damascus might sound odd, but the explanation for the event is the recent publishing of an anthology of Swedish poets in Arabic translation.

A public reading will be held at the Hejaz station in central Damascus on Thursday 13th of November, at 7.30 pm, and all interested are welcome. The authors will read their poems and a reading of the Arabic translation will follow.
