The Special Agreement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sweden related to connection of municipalities in the process of biometric passports issuance was signed today in the BiH Joint Institutions Building.
Sinisa Macan, director of the Agency for Identification Documents, Registers and Data Exchange of BiH, will sign the Agreement on behalf of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and H.E. Bosse Hedberg, the ambassador of Sweden in BiH, will sign the Agreement on behalf of Sweden, represented by the Swedish Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The subject of this Agreement is a donation in the amount of 4 200 000 Swedish krona (SEK) for the purpose of the project "Connection of municipalities in the process of biometric travel document issuance".
The fundamental objective of this project is to enable BiH to implement EU requirements in compliance to the Road Map for Liberalization of Visa Regime for BiH.
Financial resources obtained pursuant to the Agreement will be used to furnish the Register Offices with the adequate IT equipment (software, hardware, computer and devices for smart card reading) in order to establish infrastructure required for the automated exchange of digitally signed data throughout the territory of BiH, as well as for adequate training of the employees of the Register Offices in charge of entering data and data exchange, which is a critical link in the process of biometric travel documents issuance.
Procurement of goods, works and services will be carried out in accordance with the internationally accepted principles and good procurement practices, and the procurement of goods, works and services carried out by Bosnia and Herzegovina will be subject to the Law on Public Procurement of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The contribution shall be financed from the amount kept available by Sweden to Bosnia and Herzegovina in Agreements on Development Cooperation.
"Sweden's contribution is fully in line with our country strategy for BiH, primarily with the objective of Good Governance and thus directly linked to the EU partnership requirements.
At the same time I also appeal to the government and parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina to make every effort to meet the remaining requirements of the "Road Map" and to avoid a situation in which citizens of this country lag behind their neighbours in the quest for the visa free regime - a top priority among ordinary citizens. The remaining obstacles is a homework for the national politicians, not the international community or the European Union" emphasized H.E. Bosse Hedberg, the Ambassador of Sweden in BiH.
