Swedish fashion to Slovakia

If you say Sweden the first thing an uninvolved person would probably think about is Swedish film, IT-solutions, cars or music. However, this country has much more to show than the products from areas usually associated with Sweden. The Swedish Embassy in Bratislava had this idea in mind when planning for the next cultural event under the Swedish EU-presidency was made.

One of the areas which deserves a growing interest is the Swedish fashion industry. The Embassy has therefore decided to present Swedish fashion in September in cooperation with Beckmans College of Design.

Beckmans College of Design, based in Stockholm, has given Sweden many successful creators under the 70 years long history. Beckmans has gained fame, far beyond the borders of Sweden, for its strong and totally unique brand of creative culture. Beckmans students are going to present their latest models in a fashion show on September 16, 2009 in the Avion Shopping Park. The fashion show will be open for all the Avion visitors. After the fashion show there will be a reception for invited guests at IKEA’s restaurant.

As the idea of the event is to create an international exchange between Sweden and Slovakia there will be a whole day workshop at IKEA on September 18, 2009. Beckmans students will cooperate with the Slovak students from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (VŠVU). Those customers who will visit IKEA that day will have an opportunity to watch the young creators at work.
