European Film Festival

On Sunday 1 November the annual European Film Festival was launched. In the capacity as EU-President, the Swedish Embassy in Amman has had a major role in the arrangements of the festival.

The opening was held at al-Hussein Cultural Center in Amman. The Jordanian short film Ramim was screened together with the Swedish documentary The Planet. The evening was ended by a reception held after the screening. On 15 November the second Swedish film, Leaps & Bounds (Hoppet), will be screened.

November 9, the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall was celebrated at the al-Hussein Cultural Centre in Amman. The evening started with a reception given by the German Ambassador, which was followed by speeches by the German, Swedish and Hungarian Ambassador, as well as by the head of the French cultural centre Le Centre and Chargé d’Affaires of the EC delegation. A short documentary of the rise and fall of the Berlin wall was screened after this.

Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia paid a state visit to Jordan in 1989.
