Conference on Strengthening the Role of Women in Society

On November 1st the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW) and the Swedish EU Presidency in Amman, in cooperation with the European Commission, arranged a conference on "Strengthening the Role of Women in Society". The conference took place under the patronage of HRH Princess Basma Bint Talal.

The opening sessions included speeches by HRH Princess Basma , as well as HE the Minister of Planning, HE the Minister of Political Development, the Secretary General of JNCW and the ambassadors of Sweden and the European Commission.

The conference, which was a preparation for an upcoming Euro-Mediterranean conference taking place in Morocco in mid-November, was attended by some hundred people, representing a broad spectra of the Jordanian society, as well as by representative from the EU and other countries.

Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia paid a state visit to Jordan in 1989.
