The Swedish Institute Young Leaders Visitors Program 2009

The Swedish Institute (SI) Young Leaders Visitors Program is an intercultural leadership program with focus on social media as a tool for global dialogue, social mobilization and positive change. The program invites young influential and talented opinion makers who are actively working for social change in their respective countries.

The main aim of YLVP is to lay a foundation for dialogue, mutual understanding and knowledge-sharing among young opinion-makers from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, West Bank-Gaza and Sweden. YLVP strives to strengthen participants in their prospects to drive processes for social change, by strengthening and connecting influential voices and building global networks through the latest development in digital media.

Nov 18 2009 The fall of the Berlin Wall
November 9, the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall was celebrated at the al-Hussein Cultural Centre in Amman. The evening started with a reception given by the German Ambassador, which was followed by speeches by the German, Swedish and Hungarian Ambassador, as well as by the head of the French cultural centre Le Centre and Chargé d’Affaires of the EC delegation. A short documentary of the rise and fall of the Berlin wall was screened after this.

The Swedish Embassy in Jordan was opened in 1981. The first Swedish ambassador was officially accredited to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in 1981 and the first Ambassador based in Amman was appointed in 1986. Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia paid a state visit to Jordan in 1989.
