The European Union is facing a crucial period. The Swedish Presidency will be characterised by challenge, but we are ready to take on the challenge.

Our vision is a strong and effective Europe where focus is on the common responsibility to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow. Our ambition is to conduct an open, responsive and results-oriented Presidency. The two main priorities and the most important challenges for the presidency are the economy and employment and the climate – issues that affect each and every citizen of the EU and the rest of the world.

We also have other important challenges ahead of us, including continued efforts to strengthen the EU’s role as a global actor.
