Vice-President Jonathan receives Nigerian-Swedish Chamber of Commerce – to accelerate trade and business

Today a delegation from the Nigerian-Swedish Chamber of Commerce pays a courtesy call on H.E. Vice-President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. The call is a follow-up to the Vice-President’s visit to Sweden in May 2009, when he led the largest Nigerian trade delegation to Sweden ever.

-Business and trade between Nigeria and Sweden has enormous potential and could accelerate. Agriculture is one of the areas where synergies can be explored and business could thrive. The Chamber is encouraged by the Government’s readiness to facilitate business and trade relations between Sweden and Nigeria. We are ready to do our part, says Chief Olayinka Ogunmekan, President of the Chamber.

The Nigerian-Swedish Chamber of Commerce was established in 2004 and counts with over 50 participating companies. Trade and business exchange with Sweden has surged since 2008: Swedish Vice-Minister for Trade H.E. Mr. Gunnar Wieslander visited Nigeria 5th-7th of March, whereas Nigeria’s Vice-President H.E. Dr. Goodluck Jonathan visited Sweden 10th-12th of May. Swedish and Nigerian trade totaled 500 million USD in 2008, and has grown over 20 % per year since 2005.
