Swedish Vice Minister for Trade arrives to Lagos – heads a delegation aimed at fostering business with Nigeria

This evening Swedish Vice Minister for Trade, Gunnar Wieslander, arrives to Lagos. He heads the second largest Swedish trade delegation to Nigeria, with more than twenty business and government representatives. The first meeting holds tomorrow with various Commissioners and the Secretary of the Lagos State Government.

- “Trade between Nigeria and Sweden is considerable and growing fast. But we have yet to explore the full potential of our relations. Sweden wishes to embrace globalization with Nigeria, weaving our markets and societies together to the benefit of development. We are enthused to start that journey in vibrant Lagos”, says Per Lindgärde, Swedish ambassador to Nigeria.

The official program of the delegation runs from the 5th to 7th of March, and includes visits to Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Yenagoa. The delegation will meet representatives from the Federal and State governments, including the Minister for Commerce and Industry Chief Achike Udenwa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Chief Ojo Maduekwe, Governors Chief Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and Chief Timipre Sylva of Bayelsa State. They shall also meet Nigerian branch organizations and business representatives.

Swedish and Nigerian trade totaled 300 million USD in 2007, and has grown over 20 % per year since 2005. Among the Swedish companies established in Nigeria are Ericsson, ABB, Tetra Pak, Atlas Copco and Gulf Agency Corporation.
