Cultural encounters at the University of Pretoria International Students Day

Together with Swedish exchange students at the University of Pretoria, the Embassy of Sweden took part in the annual international student day on 16 October 2009 by hosting one of the stalls.

A large number of countries celebrated the cultural diversity of the university by sharing and learning about each other’s cultures. Handicraft, traditional clothes, food and information material were among the things show-cased at the stalls. The day was well-attended and characterized by a festive atmosphere, mutual learning and lots of fun and interesting encounters. The Embassy is already looking forward to next year’s International Day!

The Swedish Trade Council (STC) organised a two-day Mining Conference that brought together Mining partners from Sweden, Namibia and Botswana. Presentations and discussions proved fruitful as they centred on the latest technologies, training programmes from Sweden and other expertise from all countries. Also prominent during discussions were the skills needs experienced by the mining sector in the region, specifically Namibia and Botswana where Swedish knowledge and experience can come to play an important role.
