The Nobel Prizes-2009 in Physics and Chemistry

On the 6th and the 7th of October this year´s Nobel prizes in Physics and Chemistry were announced.

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2009 goes to Charles K. Kao (United Kingdom) "for groundbreaking achievements concerning the transmission of light in fibers for optical communication" and to Willard S. Boyle and George E. Smith (USA) "for the invention of an imaging semiconductor circuit - the CCD sensor".

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2009 goes to Venkatraman Ramakrishnan (United Kingdom), Thomas A. Steitz (USA) and Ada E. Yonath (Israel) "for studies of the structure and function of the ribosome".
