Herta Müller is awarded the Nobel Price in Literature

This years’ Nobel prize in literature will be awarded to the Romanian-born poet and writer Herta Müller.

The Swedish Academy says in its motivation for the award that the Laureate “…with the concentration of poetry and the frankness of prose, depicts the landscape of the dispossessed”.

Herta Müller was born in Romania in 1953 and migrated to The Federal Republic of Germany in 1987. She is currently residing in Berlin. A recurring theme in her works is life in communist Romania.
