Radio Romania has been nominated as a candidate to the Astrid Lindgren memorial award (ALMA).

Romanian Radio Broadcasting has been nominated as a candidate to the 2009 Astrid Lindgren memorial award. The prize was founded by the Swedish government in 2002 and is given to authors, illustrators, storytellers and others that promote the interest for children and youth literature around the globe. The award also aims to strengthen children’s rights on a global level.

153 candidates from all over the globe have been nominated this year for the award and the winner will be announced on Mars 24 in Astrid Lindgrens hometown Vimmerby. The announcement will simultaneously be presented at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, the worlds largest international children’s book fair. Previous years winner are Maurice Sendak (2003), USA; Christine Nöstlinger (2003), Austria; Lygia Bojunga (2004), Brazil; Ryôji Arai (2005), Japan; Philip Pullman (2005), Great Britain; Katherine Paterson (2006), USA; Banco del Libro (2007), Venezuela and Sonya Hartnett (2008), Australia.
