Information for Romanian citizens as from January 1st 2007: (For citizens from the Republic of Moldova see visa requirements)
Right of residence instead of Residence permit– the right of free movement, residence and permanent residence granted to the European Union citizens on Swedish territory
Residence permit is no longer required for visits to Sweden shorther than 3 months under the following circumstances: a) carrying out of dependent or independent activities such as employment, studies b) means of support including medical insurance c) family reunification with an European Union citizen who comply with the above conditions
For visits longer than 3 months, European Union citizens are obliged to present themselves and register their residence in Sweden at the nearest territorial branch of the Swedish Migration Board.
Working permit is no longer required For visits longer than 3 months European Union citizens are obliged to present themselves and register their residence in Sweden at the nearest territorial branch of the Swedish Migration Board.
Thus, no residence or work permit are required for Romanian citizens before arriving to Sweden and registration of residence can be made upon arrivalto Sweden.
However, note that this does not apply for citizens of a 3rd country residing in Romania unless they are subject to family reunification to an EU-citizen residing in Sweden. In this case, an application for a residence card can be made upon arrival to Sweden.
Required travel documentsFor the time being, Sweden does not accept entry on Swedish territory on the sole basis of a Romanian id-card. Thus a Romanian passport is required until further notice.
For moldovan citizens visiting to Sweden, applying for visa at the swedish Embassy to Romania, a romanian entry or transitvisa will be required.
