This was announced today by Minister for International Development Cooperation Gunilla Carlsson during a seminar on the Baltic Sea. The seminar is part of the programme at this year's World Water Week.HELCOM and its Secretariat, led by Dr Anne Christine Brusendorff, receive the award for the organisation's work on improving the water quality of the Baltic Sea, notably by adopting an action plan on the Baltic Sea to be implemented by 2021.The award was established by the Swedish Government in 1999 to recognise direct and practical initiatives that help improve the quality of the water in the Baltic Sea. It is intended primarily to recognise innovations and new methods in promoting a cleaner Baltic Sea environment. It can be awarded to individuals, companies, organisations and public services. The winner is chosen by a jury appointed by the Government.
The award, which consists of a crystal sculpture and SEK 150 000, will be presented by His Majesty The King at an award ceremony in Stockholm on 17 September.
