The launching of Jalenas Open-access Network in Kuantan

The 4th of August Ambassador Helena Sångeland participated in the launching of Jalenas Open-access Network in Kuantan, in the state of Pahang. Thousands of people were present when the Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Razak opened the ceremony together with the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Dr. Maximus Ongkili.

The launching of Jalenas’ (Jalur Lebar Nasional) fast speed broadband took place at Putra Square, in the new Cyber Centre placed in the heart of Kuantan. The broadband network will be delivering 100mbit/second to companies and inhabitants of Kuantan. The installation of the broadband network is part of building the infrastructure in the state of Pahang. Representatives from two leading Swedish broadband companies, PacketFront AB and Ericsson AB, which are contributing their technical expertise in the project, also attended the ceremony.

It was an eventful ceremony with speeches from the Malaysian Prime Minister and Chief Minister Dato’ Sri Adnan Bin Haji Yaakob, music as well as a presentation of Jalenas’ broadband.

The event, attended by 300 people, took place at the Berjaya Times Square Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

The Swedish Embassy is this year organising the annual European Union Film Festival held 12-22 November. The films will be screened at GSC Mid-Valley Megamall, GSC 1 Utama and GSC Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and includes 19 films from 15 different European countries.
