Swedish Presidency of the European Union
The official website for Sweden’s Presidency was launched yesterday, June 1st.

Until the official takeover of the EU-Presidency on the 1st of July, additional information and functions is going to be added to the website. se2009eu will be the most important channel of information during the Presidency this fall. Agendas, contact information and press conferences will be found on the website.

  • Nov 17 2009 Embassy closed 19-25 November
    The Embassy of Sweden in Kuala Lumpur will be closed in the end of November due to its move to a new location at the 8th floor in Plaza OSK on Jalan Ampang. The new premises are not far away from the current premises. The closest LRT station is Ampang Park.

  • Nov 13 2009 New platform launched for cooperation between Malaysia and the EU
    On the 12 November 2009 the Swedish Ambassador Helena Sångeland, as the Presidency of the European Union, participated as one of the speakers at the launch of a new forum for Malaysian European cooperation. The Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak launched the forum which aim is to strengthen the links between the EU and Malaysia. The event, attended by 300 people, took place at the Berjaya Times Square Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

    The launch of the 10th European Union Film Festival (EUFF) took place on 11th November 2009.
  • Nov 4 2009 The European Film Festival
    The Swedish Embassy is this year organising the annual European Union Film Festival held 12-22 November. The films will be screened at GSC Mid-Valley Megamall, GSC 1 Utama and GSC Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and includes 19 films from 15 different European countries.
  • Oct 23 2009 EU Ambassadors' visit Johor
    On 12-13 October the Swedish Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, as the presidency of the EU, organised a visit together with Iskandar Malaysia for the EU Ambassadors to Johor, the most southern state of West Malaysia. Twelve EU Ambassadors, the Head of the EC Delegation to Malaysia led by the Swedish Ambassador to Malaysia, Helena Sångeland, participated in the visit.

    As the presidency of EU and in regard of the World Day against Death Penalty the 10 October, the Swedish Embassy held a meeting concerning the death penalty in Malaysia the 9 October.
  • Oct 9 2009 The Swedish Embassy in Kuala Lumpur issues press release regarding the death penalty
    The 10th October is the World Day against the Death Penalty. On the 7th October the Swedish Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, as the presidency of the EU, issued a press release emphasizing the EU’s strong opposition towards the death penalty.

    MASBA, in cooperation with the Swedish Embassy, had a breakfast meeting for its members the 1 September. Twenty representatives from both Swedish and Malaysian companies were present.

    In the end of August Göran and Diana Wiking succeeded Katarina Bäckelin and Gunnar Wenehult as priest and assistant at the Church of Sweden in Singapore.

    The 11th of August the engagement between Her Royal Highness Princess Madeleine and Mr. Jonas Bergström was announced. The happy couple greeted the press and the Swedish people at the castle of Solliden on Öland.
  • Aug 14 2009 The launching of Jalenas Open-access Network in Kuantan
    The 4th of August Ambassador Helena Sångeland participated in the launching of Jalenas Open-access Network in Kuantan, in the state of Pahang. Thousands of people were present when the Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Razak opened the ceremony together with the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Dr. Maximus Ongkili.

    On 23rd July 2009, the Ambassador of Sweden to Malaysia hosted a dinner reception to mark the beginning of Sweden’s EU Presidency. As holder of the EU presidency, Sweden will lead the Council of the European Union and acts as the driving force behind the EU’s legislative and political work.

    As part of the Embassy outing a visit to Bagan Datoh Homestay took place on Mon 23rd March 2009. Ambassador Helena Sångeland and staff of the embassy travelled early morning from Kuala Lumpur to Bagan Datoh.
