New EU Presidency Web Site Launched

The official website for Sweden's European Union Presidency, se2009.eu, is now up and running.

Sweden is getting set to take over the Presidency of the EU. With an economic downturn in Europe, negotiations on a climate change agreement approaching and big changes in the EU institutions, it will be an intensive six months in the driving seat. From 1 July until the end of the year, Sweden will lead the EU's work.

This website will be the most important channel for information about the Presidency during the period July 1st to December 31, 2009.

The Swedish Presidency of the EU 1 July – 31 December 2009. Taking on the challenge. “The European Union is facing a crucial period. Together we must deal with the economic crisis and unemployment, but also unite the world to tackle climate change. The Swedish Presidency is ready to take on the challenge.” Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt.
