Steitz (USA) and Ada E Yonath (Israel) for ' studies of the structure and function of the ribosome.''The ribosome translates the DNA code into life' and understanding how it works is important for a scientific understanding of life.' The knowledge can also be put to practical and immediate use, for example in the development of today´s antibiotics.
Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, a US citizen, is a Senior Scientist and Group leader at MRC laboratory of Molecular Biology at the University of Cambridge.
