The Presidency of the European Union conveys its condolences to the families of the victims and the authorities of the affected countries in the regions, as well as its sympathies to those injured.
Following typhoon Ketsana, the EU and its Member States have committed emergency aid to help the victims in the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. The EU has also announced emergency assistance following the earthquake and the ensuing tsunami that hit the Pacific Islands region.
The EU is currently assessing the need for assistance following today’s earthquake off western Sumatra, Indonesia, and will continue to closely monitor needs in the affected regions.
