After a short introduction by the Director of the OSA, Mr. István Rév, the Swedish Ambassador, Ms. Cecilia Björner, presented the priorities of the EU Presidency, with a main focus on the handling of the economic crisis and employment and the combat against climate change (for a more detailed description of the priorities see the attached Word file). In addition to the Swedish Ambassador's presentation, the Ambassadors of the former EU presidencies - in the EU trio - Mr. Járomír Plísek (Czech Republic) and Mr. René Roudaut (France) made their assessments of the cooperation of the EU trio presidency and the positive and high expectations on the Swedish EU presidency. The presentations were followed by a reception with typical Swedish food, for example salmon, herring and "Jansson's temptation" (Janssons frestelse).
During the reception the vocal group Kraja - consisting of four young Swedish women from the city of Umeå - entertained the guest with a mixture of traditional Swedish folk music.
Sweden will head the Council of the European Union until December 31, 2009.
