The launch of the Swedish EU Presidency

Today, the Swedish Presidency of the EU is launched. Now Sweden is in the driving seat of the world's largest integrated economy with nearly half a billion citizens.

To mark this occasion, the Swedish Ambassador Cecilia Björner and the Head of the EU Commission’s representation in Hungary, Mr Gábor György, raised the Swedish flag next to the Hungarian and the EU flags in the premises of the EU Commission in Budapest.

The Swedish pop group I’m from Barcelona will perform on the A38 ship in Budapest 26 May at 9 p.m. If you book in advance tickets cost 1500 forint and if you pay at the door tickets cost 2000 forint.

On the 26 April the Swedish movies “Återkomsten” and “Kvinna med födelsemärke” will be shown at Skandináv Ház Alapítvány, VII. Klauzál tér 4. Sven Wollter plays the lead part as chief commissioner Van Veeteren in both movies, which are based upon the Swedish author Håkan Nesser’s novels about the police in the fictitious town of Maardam.

Lukas Moodyson’s critically acclaimed movie “Together” (Együtt) is about life in a Swedish collective during the mid-1970’s. Elisabeth decides to leave her violent husband Rolf and takes her daughter Eva and her son Stefan with her to go and live with her brother Göran in a collective, together with people with leftist sympathies. Elisabeth slowly gets accustomed to the new model of society, while Stefan continues to miss his father, and Eva starts seeing a boy from the house across the street.

IMMANU EL is a young Swedish band whose debut album “They’ll come, they come” was released in 2007 to rave reviews. Swedish newspaper METRO described the band as “One of the biggest Swedish pop-hopes right now.” IMMANU EL will tour extensively in Europe during 2009, and their eagerly expected second album will be recorded this summer.
