Since 1901, the Nobel Prize has been honoring men and women from all corners of the globe for outstanding achievements in physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, and for work in peace. The foundations for the prize were laid in 1895 when Alfred Nobel wrote his last will, leaving much of his wealth to the establishment of the Nobel Prize.The Nobel Prize is an international award administered by the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm, Sweden. Each prize consist of a medal, personal diploma, and a cash award.

The Nobel Prize in Literature goes to Herta Müller, Germany "who, with the concentration of poetry and the frankness of prose, depicts the landscape of the dispossessed"

Nobel Prize in Physics goes to Charles K. Kao, Willard S. Boyle and George E. Smith, the fathers of fiber optics and digital imaging.

Nobel Prize in Chemistry goes to Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, Thomas A. Steitz and Ada E. Yonath "for studies of the structures and function of the ribosome"

Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine goes to Elizabeth H. Blackburn, Carol W. Greider and Jack W. Szostak "for the discovery of hos chromosomes are protected by telomeres and the enzyme telomerase"
