Highly visible Swedish Participation at this year's Abu Dhabi Bookfair

This year's Book Fair took place 17-22 March, this time with a prominent Swedish participation.

The well known Swedish Writer Henning Mankell was one of the Fair's most prominent guests, and his meetings with the visitors to the Fair - young and old - received many positive reactions. Mr. Mankell participated i.a. in meetings with school children to discuss his writing, to talk about how it is to be a writer, and many other questions. The large amount of young people at the Fair boded well for the Future, Mr Mankell said, seeing many youngsters leaving the Fair laden with all the books that they had bought. During the Fair Henning Mankell signed two new translations to Arabic of his books. They had been translated by a Swedish Publisher and translator of Jordanian Origin, Mrs. Mona Henning, who has during the past two decades worked tirelessly to translate into Arabic many works of Sweden's famous Authors of Childrens Books. She, and her Publishing Company, Dar al Muna, has been a well known fixture at recent years' Book Fairs in Abu Dhabi. New this year at the Fair was the Swedish Culinary participation, with Mr Bo Masser, Vice President of Gourmand World Cook Book Awards, and Mr KC Wallberg, a wellknown Swedish Chef. The Gourmand stand with the Show Kitchen was the largest private stand at the show. Its presentation at the Book Fair of 600 cookbooks from over 100 countries will stay in Abu Dhabi at the National Library.
